Having an account will let you keep track of the courses you take and will enable the courses to record where you last left off, if you didn’t finish the course during your last online session. Understanding and Intervening with the Explosive ChildEveryone wants to know, “What should we do about the child who has frequent meltdowns or explosions?” In order to intervene effectively, we must first understand the origins of this challenging behaviour no matter the age of the child. This presentation will introduce the underlying emotion of frustration, and then explain why certain students have a hard time managing their frustration, including the neuroscience surrounding their behaviour. We will look at ways of intervening that avoid certain pitfalls and that have proven to be most effective for helping these children.

Sensory-Friendly Strategies for Supporting Behaviour & Setting Up Your Outdoor Camp for Success This workshop will look at supporting behaviours through creating sensory-friendly spaces in recreation settings. The main focus will be on summer day camps and outdoor spaces, however many of the tools and skills will be transferable. This workshop will explore the importance of understanding emotions by using the zones of regulation, visuals and how to use them effectively outside, and adapting your camp space through use of sensory-friendly spaces and sensory tools. Learners will be engaged through scenarios and questions and walk away with resources and considerations for planning camps this summer.

Autism Awareness for Recreation Leaders – Free

Autism Awareness for Recreation LeadersThis course is designed to provide recreation staff with an overview of autism and an introduction to strategies for supporting individuals with autism in recreation settings.  In this highly interactive one-hour module, learners will work through four real life scenarios, watching a series of video interviews with recreation staff who have dealt with similar situations.  Learners will become more familiar with the behaviours associated with autism, and walk away with communication tips, teaching and learning strategies and behaviour support approaches.  Learners will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

Healthy Choices – Free

Healthy ChoicesRecreation facilities promote healthy lifestyles but often, the food and beverage options for patrons leave much to be desired.  It’s hard to promote healthy lifestyles when the only options after a good workout are pop, chips and chocolate bars. So where do you start?  This interactive course will walk through a five step process to support you in transforming your facility to a “Healthy Choices Facility”.  There are lots of tools and templates embedded in this course that you can use.

PoolSafeBC — $40

PoolSafe BCWelcome to the official PoolSafeBC online course and exam. This course is designed for all aquatic centre staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazards in pool settings.  In order to receive certification, you are required to fully complete the course and achieve 70% on the exam. A PoolSafeBC certificate can be printed immediately following successful completion. The course covers subjects such as rights and responsibilities of employers and workers, common hazards, microbiological organisms, chemical safety and emergency preparation and response. This course will take between 3-4 hours to complete. You can stop and start the course as it will remember where you left off, if you use the same computer/device.

Vulnerable Populations – Free

The Canada Food Guide was updated in February 2019 by Health Canada. This webinar provides information on the current guidelines and considerations on healthy eating, and how it can be used as a resource for developing nutritional policies, programs and educational resources.
